I have recently been awarded an Arts Council England Developing Your Creative Practice grant to work over 2021/22 on a personal project around Sutton Park near where I live in Birmingham.
The project Park Light is twofold. Firstly, to research the photographic history of the park; who chose to photograph within it, what and why in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, as represented in public archives. Secondly, to develop my own photographic work, navigating a way to form an artistic practice of my own as part of my professional offer, and re-engaging my photography skills in analogue and digital formats.
I hope to share my development of this project through my blog posts and Instagram account over the course of the year and work in progress will be uploaded to the Portfolio Park Light, please click above.
The following photographs were taken prior to receiving this grant as part of my scouting out ideas, and shot on my phone camera.
