Prior to this, since 2019 I have been working independently, freelancing on the following projects:
I am currently freelancing for Sampad as an Exhibitions Assistant for From City of Empire to City of Diversity: A Visual Journey, working to create 2 touring versions of the exhibition opening in March 2022 at the Library of Birmingham.
Developed in Birmingham CIC (ongoing)
I am co-Director of a new Community Interest Company Developed in Birmingham CIC. Together with Jo Gane & Philip Singleton we are working to research and share knowledge around the history of photography in Birmingham, generating contemporary responses and social engagement activities.
Damon Albarn Project Space The Photographers’ Gallery (Nov 2021)
Worked with Transgressive Records, Eleven Mgmt and The Photographers’ Gallery team to help curate a small display as an Eranda Studio Takeover in support of a new album launch
Developing Your Creative Practice (Until May 2022)
I am currently undertaking a project supported by Arts Council England as part of their Developing Your Creative Practice programme, for which I have been awarded a grant to develop photographic work around Sutton Park, Birmingham. This involves historic photography research and my own new photography.
Argentea Gallery (2019-2021)
Spanning all aspects of gallery curation and development for the contemporary photography specialist Argentea Gallery in the Jewellery Quarter, Birmingham.
Work involved liaison and consultation with artists, programme planning, collaborative exhibition curating, developing web content, writing exhibition text and undertaking PR and Marketing.
I was invited to write the short biography for Christina Broom to feature in the following publication: A Global History of Women Photographers, (une histoire mondiale des femmes photographes) by French publishers Textuel.
I am currently undertaking some personal research into the photography of particular missionaries in China. See my blog post
Through 2020/21 I have carried out consultation for Hundred Heroines, Armitt Museum and four active photographers.
